Silicone tires for Revell-Monogram Greenwod Corvette

Postby slothead » Fri Dec 28, 2018 2:48 am

Quick Slicks does not list a size to fit the Greenwood Corvette but I'm wondering if anyone has found a size that would work? I have about 15 of these cars that I harvested the axles from for dirt track builds and am eager to try a new silicone option.

Silicone over foam is king on my oval and I'm constantly looking for a pure silicone tire to fit RTR wheels that will be somewhat comparable.

I thought the CB52 or 53 fit that car. It wasn't perfect but very close. I know Max trax also make a tire for that wheel.

I have MaxxTrac M13's but would like to try other silicone options. I got some used parts awhile back and one axle had silicone tires on it so I put it in a spare (SCX?) chassis and it has better grip than the M13's. But, I have no idea what make of tire it is. If there are differences in silicone tires I'd like to try other brands, and need them most on my cars with R/M Greenwood Corvette axles. Quick Slicks would be my first choice because of the positive comments about them on HRW.

When I get to the store I can check on what tire will work best. Like I said I don't think it was a perfect fit.

Mike - if you think there's a Quick Slick's version that might work I'll buy a couple of pairs off you and give 'em a go. Since I've JB Welded the R/M Vette axle bushings onto custom styrene chassis for these cars, I may have to use a Dremel to modify the rims, but am willing to give it a try.

Maybe try electric dreams? They might have something.

There was an Indy Grip tire for it, and Gel-claws, but I never liked the Gel-claws. Surely Paul Gage makes that tire in urethane, at least.

I have checked the tire fitment of Quick Slicks on that car and the CB23 is a very close fit on that car.

Mike - I just went to your website and ordered 3 pair of those Quick Slicks, 1 pair each of soft. firm, and extra-firm. Bought a Scalextric Trans Am car I've had my eye on too.

PGT's are tops on my mdf road course, but silicones are better on my slick hardboard oval. Perhaps because the track has been 'rubbered in' with silicone tires for 10 years before I tried urethanes.

I'll do a follow up report once I get to try out the tires next weekend.

Here's the follow up report I promised. I got my package from Cloverleaf Racing yesterday and spent time with the Scalextric Trans Am car I bought while on the site for Quick Slicks. The #11 '70 Camaro is a great looking car and will replace the plain one I had planned to put decals on for this livery.

Today I tried the Quick Slicks (CB23 soft) on one of my dirt modified cars with a R/M Greenwood Corvette rear axle and while not a perfect fit at first I was able to massage them into place and then averaged lap times 0.3 secs faster than with Maxx Trac M13's.

I don't plan to use the firm and extra-firm pairs I got right now, but at some point they will be used to upgrade more cars. I might end up getting some C.B. Design wheels they fit and add some new builds to the roster.

Thanks for the help.
