6th Annual Michigan 24 - Slot Racers Giving Back

Postby Quick Slicks » Mon Mar 07, 2016 1:17 pm

The 6th(!) Annual Michigan 24 Hour Endurance race is just around the corner – this year’s race will be held from April 15-17, 2016. In addition to the world-class racing, a hallmark of this event is the “Slot Racers Giving Back” fundraising for charity. We have some exciting changes in store that will make it easier for anyone, anywhere to participate in this year’s charity fundraising. Some of these significant changes are summarized below.

• Previous fundraisers relied on selling paper (physical) raffle tickets. This was time-consuming and inconvenient for organizers and participants alike (particularly remote contributors). This year’s fundraising will do away with paper tickets altogether. You can purchase tickets online and ticket numbers will be updated and posted regularly throughout the course of the event. Tickets are $1.00 each.

• A complete list of prizes from charity sponsors will also be published and updated regularly. We’ve already started lining up sponsors and prizes – there are a lot of GREAT prizes! A partial list of sponsors includes:

Home Racing World
RMS Resins
Changing Gears
Cloverleaf Racing
Slot Car Corner Canada
Paul Gage Tires
C.B. Design Wheels
Slot Car Corner
Quick Slicks
Bensenville Bombers

If you are interested in donating a prize for the raffle, please let us know.

• The deadline to purchase tickets online will be Sunday, April 17th at Noon ET. A final list of contributors and tickets will then be published.

• In the past, a traditional drawing was held at the end of the event – the drawing was time-consuming and required considerable effort to keep track of winners and their prizes. At this year’s event, we will “draw” prize winners electronically (randomly) and post results sometime Sunday afternoon.

As in previous years, 100% of the charity raffle proceeds will be donated to actual charities. The total raffle proceeds will be split equally 6 ways – each of the 6 teams participating in this year’s event will then donate their share to a charity of their choice.

Details about actually purchasing raffle tickets for the charity fundraiser will be published later this month. Please consider making a donation - $1, $5, $10 or whatever you can afford would be GREATLY appreciated!

6th Annual Michigan 24 - Slot Racers Giving Back

Postby cgingras » Sun Mar 13, 2016 3:49 pm

For all Canadian customers (and only Canadian customers!), Slot Car Corner Canada will convert your CA$1 raffle ticket into a US$1 raffle ticket for free. Currently, that's the equivalent of a 33¢ donation from Slot Car Corner Canada for every raffle ticket bought by a Canadian slot racer at the Slot Car Corner Canada website.

You can buy your raffle tickets right here:

Team Quick Slicks will be donating their portion to an Atlanta based charity called Bert's Big Adventure.

BBA searches for under privileged kids with chronic or terminal illnesses and takes them and their families on a trip of a lifetime to Disney World. The child's experience with BBA does not stop after the trip. They are given assistance in daily care and support in forms of accessibility needs, hospital necessities, favorite character visits, and many more things to make their hospital stays and daily lives just a little bit better.

Their website is below.
www.bertsbigadventure.org

In addition, if you know of a family that needs this and is within The Bert Show's broadcasted range (syndicated morning radio show), make sure to nominate them on BBA's website!

To Team Quick Slicks - outstanding!

I would like to ask the other teams in this year's event to share with HRW readers the charity you will be supporting (if you've selected one).

Team Slot Car Corner will be supporting two (2) charities this year as part of the upcoming Michigan 24 Slot Racers Giving Back charity fundraising. The two charities are St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and First Candle. Why did we select these two charities? Some of you may be familiar with Race Coordinator - a PC-based race management system for slot car racing. Race Coordinator is a full-featured slot car race management system that can be downloaded and used at no charge. In return, the author does ask anyone using Race Coordinator to consider making a voluntary contribution to either of these two charities. Race Coordinator will be used at this year's Michigan 24. Please take a minute to read this touching story and you'll understand why we chose these two charities.

St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. For more information, please visit the St. Jude website.

First Candle has been saving babies’ lives, spearheading research, educating new moms and dads, and bringing hope to grieving families for decades. For more information, please visit the First Candle website.
