Shipping Proxy Cars to Canada

In addition to the rules posted above, these points should be considered when shipping either single cars or a box full of cars from the another country to Canada.

It usually takes a couple of weeks for parcels to come from the US to Canada, longer from other countries. These parcels have to pass through Canada Customs and may be charged extra duty if not carefully described.

All boxes should have the following declaration on them-

TOY CARS FOR COMPETITION, WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER

We have had experiences where as much as $25 has been charged in duty because the declaration just read "toy cars". If Customs thinks the item has been purchased, it could be charged.

Do not overestimate the value of your cars. The higher the value posted, the greater the chance that customs will want to collect money. As a rule, I put a max of $50 per car, even if I would think it worth more.

It is better to hand write the declaration form at the post office rather than do it online. The computer has been known to put a declaration in that was not at all what the sender wanted to say, and the package got charged accordingly.

Being a letter carrier Please take in mind that the boxes get thrown around!!!!! so pack with as much padding as you can FOAM peanuts work great very light, as for the bottom of the box, make sure there is padding there too, I buy a lot of cars off the bay and most of the cars have no padding on the bottom! DUH!!! when you are through with packing shake the box! you shouldnt feel or hear ANY movement, toss it on the couch from 10 feet away, It may sound crazy but Ive seen the boxes get tossed, its not a pretty sight! that is why it is imperrative to pack well. Newspaper is not a good packing material when balled up it just gets hard.
Guys check your wives cosmetic boxes for foam packing material . . .



This was from one of my wifes cosmetic purchases, cost around 5 bucks shipped with insurance for 50 bucks to Georgia 1st class.
Ive seen too many parcels come in damaged due to improper packing.
As I said before NO MOVEMENT in the box, that it where the damage comes from!

Is it best to insure the "big box" of cars as it travels from venue to venue? How are they valued, $50 times the number of entrants? Any other tips?
