100 Years of Indy in the damp south!

Postby btaylor » Sun Dec 04, 2016 8:44 am

The Indy cars made it safe and sound Saturday. I got to run them some this AM. Man are these great cars!Image
I ran lane four today, and may get to run more this afternoon if the weather holds. We have 50 degrees and raining. Track temp at the surface was 48 degrees! not great for traction (or my cold hands)
The first runs were amazing. I have a new non mag track record set by chappy's #23 car He ran a 3.039 against a 3.055 old record. And this was a cold track with unfavorable traction! I Must add here, that his car is also my "Host's Choice" car for this race. His car reminds me of the old commercial raceway cars we ran back in the day. Lots of power, and my track felt small compared to the ability of this great car. I longed for a twenty foot straight!Image
Well, enough of my rambling, here are the results from lane four.
19 / 44.7 laps / 3.815 best
70 / 46.5 laps / 3.569 best
5 / 47.3 laps / 3.498 best
32 / 35.1 laps / 4.094 best
17 /52.5 laps/ 3.250 best
40 / 55.2 laps / 3.216 best
23 / 56.3 laps / 3.039 track record
18 / 55.5 laps / 3.140 best
62 /51.6 laps / 3.337 best
9 / 48.2 laps / 3.585 best
Also, some quick comments. The wasp was as described by others, a very fun car to drive! tail happy, but stable and proportionate power :auto-driving: . Shotguns car made every lap lifting the left rear wheel, and never desloted! :music-rockout: Found my right rear wheel off in the shipping box, it had been a press on with glue that didn't hold. fixed it, and lost some of the hop? I will post more impressions after the race.

Simply great to see these cars get to run and a track record for one of the bunch? Way to build 'em Chappy! We'll see if that nasty mean looking '57 you got in the Panamericana can chase down Tiny Alice next week.... Bob, thank you so much for keeping Indy alive!!!

I am sorry I didn't get this going sooner. BIG Kudos to Shotgun for taking the reins on this race. I hope we can get a few more tracks before years end? maybe one or two?
