Thanks, Austin. That sounds like a good idea.

You have my shipping address from the box that I just sent the RAA cars in.

I'm still thinking on the topic of motors for this open wheel series.

One open wheel series that has been successful over the years is the Vintage Race Across America (VRAA) over on the SCI board. They run a couple of classes of cars and the chassis are almost all scratch built brass/piano wire, but I think that there is probably some useful info to be gained by looking at this series, since the cars do, routinely, complete it without front end damage. The motors that they allow are all lower rpm/lower torque:

Slimcan motors:

BWA FF-050
M/T SL1

FC-130 S-can motors:

BWNC1
M/T1
Ninco NC-1
Ninco NC-8
Ninco NC-11

I'm thinking that's a good place to start for this year. If there are problems with the armature shaft length on the modern Scaley F1 cars, then there is. You can either work around it or decide not to enter one of those cars. '75 on up is a pretty good range to work with, so I don't think that anyone should be limited by options to choose a car.

Comments?

I think this is a fair solution with options

I agree with you Todd, but only if there is a standard body/chassis combo. The past two Canada Proxies used first MR Slotcar Mazdas and then McLarens and required stock motors and chassis/bodies. It was some of the tightest racing I've ever seen with 20 out of 26 cars within a second on our race. Two were faster, four slower. The same probably would apply to the Artin series, or the Kafer series last year.

Since we would be having everything from brass chassis to plastic to stock, I feel maybe we need to go to an open motor rule and let people used whatever, at their own peril.

I received a Scaley Mercedes-Benz F1 car from Austin yesterday.

Austin, is that the one with the M/T SL-1 motor in it? The Ferrari was not in the package. If the M-B has the SL-1 motor, then that's really all I need to do the test, since I have a Ferrari F1 with the original Scaley slimcan motor in it. Let me know; thanks.

This is the setup in the Scaley Mercedes-Benz F1, Slot-it axles and wheels front and rear. Paul Gage rear tires,

I burnt out the stock motor in the Ferrari .

I am going to put a MT1 in a Carrera and see what happens.

Four months and no posts on this thread.

Should we assume this proxy idea is a no go?

I am asking as I will soon be updating the Proxy Calendar and want it to reflect that is really going to happen.

As usual, I have a car ready, a six wheeled Tyrell, but I will continue to use it in club racing.

Hi Keith, Unfortunately, I think that's the right assumption; just not enough interest at this time.

Allan and group
Could it have been slowed, because of the very interesting Indy car proxy?
Might be interesting to do the motor choices that you have chosen and than have a class for scratch built and one for plastic?

Good idea Dale. Maybe plastic chassis with the motor they came with, and scratch built with just a rev limit, say 22k. That way anyone who is a tuner rather than a builder would go plastic and the rest build as they dare. Anyone just starting in the hobby would have a chance with a car like a stock Fly, Scaley or Policar for example.

Since scratch builds are generally stronger and heavier than plastic F1 cars, the two classes could be run separately

Anyone else out there still interested in this one and have some input?

Feel free to pick this one up, Austin, Keith, Dale or anyone else. I'm am almost totally "proxied out" and I need a break at this point. I still think that an open wheel fun run proxy would be great, but I don't have the time to put into it right now. The La Carrera Panamericana-2 will be my last directed proxy for the foreseeable future. Sorry.
