Dennis:

Your car had a much better day yesterday, and is already moving back up the leaderboard after the disaster on the hill.

Perry is a retired electrician, and we did a simple test. With only your car running it was drawing over 1 amp on the meter, with all three cars running it was drawing less than 2 amps. The transformer powering the hill could not give you 1 amp near the top of the run and your car died.

Don's Attic track has a similar power supply to Perry's which should help your car, but it has short straights and is technical which may not help.

Also I instructed the drivers to be aware of the massive brakes in your car, turn their controller brakes off, and feather their throttle rather than fully lifting. This helped smooth out your car's run with the excellent result shown.

Cheers,

Keith

Another race of the GVSCC Targa 2 proxy is in the books, and what a difference a track makes. Five of us turned out to Don's Attic Track in North Vancouver. Drivers were Don, Brian and Ron. Luf did video and and I did the race directing and paper work. Luf and I also both marshalled.

Don's track is a twisty little affair with only one short straight and the rest is curves of various sizes. As most of our club tracks are, the curves are rarely radii, but rather follow the flow of the racing line. In one area of the track there is a squeeze section that can trip up cars if driver are too aggressive. The track is quite technical, and often gives an unusual set of results. Cars often have results on this track that are quite different from Luf's track or either of Perry's tracks.

All went well, although we did restart a few heats due to technical difficulty. Due to time constraints, we ran two minute heats for all cars in each of three lanes.

As I posted before, Max and Dan have withdrawn their cars due to recurring technical problems. I will not be including them with the results from this point forward.

Now to the results -

142 Dave Capelen 48.6
146 Mike Dove 48.6
150 Steve Morrow 48.4
104 Alan Schwartz 44.1

1 Chris Walker 57.4
3 Dale Carstensen 57.3
13 Ron Todhunter 57.1
48 Bob Goulet 56.6
58 Brian Samson 55.9
85 Steve Williams 54.1

The leaderboard is updated.

A few things to note. There are several ties including a three-way tie in Class B.

Congrats to Dale for a great run at Don's today which moved him up the leaderboard.

After the disaster on the hill, Dennis was faster than all other cars today, even group B, and subsequently is moving forward again.

Barbs is pulling away from the other Manx Cobras, and looks to be likely to win "the race within the race".

Unfortunately a few cars are moving in the wrong direction, but there are only two more races to go.

Cheers,

Keith

In Class A the top four finishers were the same as last week, despite the courses being very different. Evidently four very well built cars. Despite a nearly disastrous Burnaby hill climb, Dennis appears to be making a run at the podium with only two races remaining, but with the top four cars consistently finishing well will there be enough points allotted for him to reach the podium? This one will definitely be in play until Luf's Targa is completed.

Don's Attic threw a curve at Class B. There appear to be several cars within reach of the overall podium. The top two seem to have their places in hand but 3rd may be within reach of several players.

Congratulations to the top finishers and thanks to Keith, Luf and the GVSCC for all your efforts in hosting this unique Proxy. Looking forward to the video.

Well, Don's attic track was good to my Alfa T33/3 last year, but it obviously didn't like my Porsche 908/3 this year. That's racing!

Thanks for running this Round and posting the results, Keith and team.

Congrats to the podium racers in both class. Way to go, Dale, in B-class......! :handgestures-thumbup:

One of the features that sets this Targa Florio Proxy apart is the extensive video of each race provided by a Luf Linkert, which gives each contestant an opportunity to see the different courses in detail and to watch all cars in action. Here's a special :text-thankyouyellow: to Luf for taking the time to provide the video. The Slo-Mo clips are especially telling.

And, congratulations to all in the Pacific Northwest on your Seattle Seahawks victory last night. The Seahawks are better than their record and they exposed vulnerabilities in the Patriots. Russell Wilson really never left but, "He's baaaack!"

One of the entrants posted on one of the forums that he would like to know where we are all from. So here is a list based on the positions currently held on the leaderboard.

Entrant Country

Dariusz Pawlowski Canada
Keith Hines Canada
Adrian Pawlowski Canada
Dennis Samson USA
Bob Chapman Canada
Luf Linkert Canada
Barbs Hills Isle of Man
Daniel Heald Canada
Mike Buss Isle of Man
Steve Morrow Isle of Man
Dave Capelen Isle of Man
Bill Beggs Canada
Mike Dove Isle of Man
Alan Schwartz USA

Chris Walker Canada
Ron Todhunter Canada
Steve Williams USA
Andy White Isle of Man
Allan Jarvis USA
Leon Luke Canada
Bob Goulet USA
Russell Sheldon South Africa
Dale Carstensen USA
Brian Samson Canada
Perry Roussy Canada
Christian Mayer Canada
Tony Bovard Australia
Tony Palmer USA
Jon Grainger UK
Mike Gatey Canada
Robert Bance UK
Leo Capaldi UK -Scotland
Keith Wells UK

Canada 15, UK/Isle of Man 10, USA 8, South Africa and Australia 1 each.

The two cars that have gone home are included in the above tally, one from Canada and one from the USA.

Tires are still a bit of a mystery to me. In the 60s we all ran either foamies or sillies. When I came back to slot racing 44 years later, everyone in our club used urethane tires made by Luf. Most Canadian slot racers use tires made by Paul Gage in Winnipeg, Luf's or Art's from DArt Hobbies. From talking to many of you, I know that most of the racers in the UK/Isle of Man normally run rubber tires only, and I also know that a lot of US racers also run silicone tires on their tracks.

From our experience, urethane and silicone don't play well together, as the one type causes weird traction issues for the other, and silicone tires need an immaculately clean track.
Since we run only urethane tires we can set up our cars for them, which may or not give us the advantage. Also there is strength in numbers, and entrants from all participating countries are spread throughout the standings.

So there is the latest tidbit to mull over as we await the final two events.

Cheers,

Keith

It's Saturday evening and I am sitting at my computer, ready to write a report. The trouble is there is nothing to report. The race scheduled for today had to be cancelled as life got in the way of playing with cars.

I have been sick in bed all week, including a trip to the ER, I haven't felt up to much this week. The cars are here in their bin, but I live farthest out of town of any of our club members. We have just postponed it.

I feel I will be on the mend by Thursday, so if I can gather up a crew, we will try to run the last two races next weekend.

Cheer,

Keith

Hi Keith,

Take your time to rest. Pretty sure Mike's going to the island this weekend so proxy racing's out.

See you soon.
