CBD wheel size chart?

There doesn't seem to be any information on the actual size of the CBD wheels..

Do you guys have a chart? or spec sheet that will show the dimensions of each of the wheels offered?

I'm wondering because a 15x11 Steel style wheel is exactly 11.00mm wide, but the overall diameter is 15.86 and the lip is 14.04
Another example is the 14x12 F1 wheel.. it is 11.45mm wide, not 12 and the overall diameter is 14.40 with the lip being 11.43
So the rib the tire fits over is thicker on the F1 wheel than the steel wheel..

The wheels all look fantastic and are the only aftermarket wheels I use..and I suppose at the end of the day if they look
good and have a wide variety of sizes available the exact size doesn't really matter, but I'm curious if the information is
out there and I'm just not finding it~

Thanks!

Look at this chart: http://www.slotcarcorner.com/files/wheeltirechart.pdf

In the first column, below the "official" size, you'll see more precise measurements for all wheels.

For standard-size wheels (15x8, 14x12, 17x10, etc.), we used the same measurements as the wheels from Slot.it, NSR, etc., for compatibility. For other sizes, we tried to use the measurements that were already out there (for example, 15x11 are based on Fly Classic cars). This way, it's a lot easier to find tires that will fit.

Of course, for obvious reasons, it's much easier for users to use 15x8 to identify a wheel than use 15.45x8.39.

Thanks~

Do you know how many times I've looked at that chart and never noticed the 'actual size' listed on that left side of the page?

Would it be possible to add the rim measurement as well?
I am never sure if the diameter refers to the total including the rib or whether it is the rim and the rib is then taller.

Hello Mark,

Eurosport style wheels (C.B. Design, Slot.it, NSR, etc.) are generally referred to by the o.d. measured at the center rib (in mm) and the width of the wheel (in mm). Sort of....

For example, most 15x8mm wheels have roughly a 15.8mm o.d. measured at the center rib and are roughly 8.5mm wide. But it's much easier to remember "15x8" instead of "15.8x8.5". On the other hand, 17x10mm wheels have roughly a 17.2mm o.d. measured at the center rib and are roughly 10.0mm wide. Closer but still not exact. Note there will also be some slight variations from one manufacturer to the next for a given wheel size.

Shoulder o.d. measurements are rarely mentioned when discussing wheels and/or tires - they tend to add more confusion. This is why we don't include them on the reference chart.

We did briefly put some drawings of wheels with dimensions on our website; however, for 98% of our Customers, it didn't help them when searching for tires to fit a given wheel. This was in part because tire manufacturers don't (generally) publish the corresponding information and partly because most Customers don't want to work that hard trying to find tires. This is one of the reasons the Tire Selectors were introduced. Most of our Customers know they have this brand car and this car model (or this brand wheel and the size) and want a tire that fits. The Tire Selectors were designed with these Customer requirements in mind.

With 1:1 wheels the size refers to the the ID of the tire that fits. The part of the rim that shows is about an inch larger in diameter, so a 15 inch wheel is really 16 inches in diameter.
As for slot car wheels what really matters is that they will look OK on the car and you can find tires that fit them. With a static model I might be more fussy about scale.

Abarth Mike, you're right when you say that it can be confusing. But we didn't really invent this naming scheme. Before the first wheels came out (15x8 and 17x10 were the first sizes), this naming scheme was used for Euro wheels and we just went along with it to not create even more confusion (in a lumberyard, a 2x4 is not really a 2x4. It's only a way to more easily identify what the product is).

Then, as more sizes were created, we also mostly went along with what the market had already done, to follow the established «standards». There are lots of tires and inserts on the market and I think we should all make sure that when a new wheel size is released, it's compatible with at least some of the existing products.

@Arbarth Mark

Please don't shoot the messenger! We did not "invent" the Eurosport wheel sizing/naming convention - nor are we trying to play games by misrepresenting our wheel sizes. Rather, we are just following the same general convention used by other manufacturers who have been making similar sized wheels far longer than we have. For example, a Slot.it 15x8 wheel is also roughly 15.8 x 8.5mm. Again, it's awkward to say (or remember) "15.8 x 8.5" - instead, slot racers find it easer to simply refer to it as a "15x8". A Slot.it 17x10 wheel is actually 17.3 x 9.75mm. From the Slot.it parts catalog (the top kit includes "17x10" wheels, the bottom kit includes "15x8" wheels):

Image

Could we could produce a 15x8mm wheel that is actually 15x8mm? Sure. However, doing so potentially limits customers using other brands of tires (again, many of which have existed far longer than C.B. Design Wheels have been available) that are designed for 15.8x8.5mm wheels. In other words, making "proprietary" wheels that require customers to use just our tires does not make good business sense.

The SCC Wheel / Tire Chart Christian mentioned earlier shows the actual wheel sizes (o.d. at center rib and width).

:)

edit: I see Christian has already posted while I was drafting this response.

Just remember, the naming conventions of these slot car wheels are given in actual size millimeters, not in scale inches. I think this is where most of the confusion is coming from.
