Off Road meets Two lane Blacktop

Well I was about to post this here and noticed most of the tracks are wood.
I love racing on wood and have one in the jam room out back.This set up is very different,but fun.
A lot of my racing is just me.While I enjoy racing against my best lap times,there is still something missing.Another car..I've tried digital,liked it,but found out what was used the most was the ghost car function.
Well we made my our own ghost car the ol' fashion way.A rubber band,controller,fast magnet car,verses me with a much slower car with no magnets.I've got a couple of adjustable power supplies ,one for each lane.Thus I can set the fast boy where I can almost keep up.He makes no mistakes,I do..Kinda reminds me of some of the racing done as we were kids.. Hard to believe an ol' Eldon car is fun to race against a pioneer isn't it.Set the speed just right and they are all fun!That is the reason for the Carrera plastic track.Magnet racing for the ghost car..I'm in the process of making a controller/power supply for just the ghost car function.
I've also been enjoying the SCX off road track and trucks.We have a small layout inside of my two lane black top.Again lot's of fun.It is wild what these trucks/cars can do..
As you can see this layout is not permanent,laid on carpet so it can be changed up.I've had a complex off road set up here,and can go back to that when wanted.I understand most of us now run wood,but we're having a different kind of fun here..

That looks cool Rusty! The off track has some neat obstacles to say the least. I wish I could get more people over to race with me also. Have you set up your US-1 layout yet?

I'm lucky to race with the Bibbster and Tubby when we can.
I've played with the US-1 track for some time.A very neat idea by Tyco.It's down for now but will be back up for the hollidays.Reminds me of my ol' toy trains,just more fun.
One good thing about this set up is that I can adjust the power down for young visitors.They can race,have fun,and if they get better at racin' we can turn the power up on their lane.It's a very simple deal,but those ol' Eldon cars racing around the track look pretty much like Christmas time..
It's all for fun.

oh I see it now, yes I know about the drop arm, I could not see the rails under the bridge
I got a ninco hummer was not happy with it, its parts now live in another

The SCX have a great ,long drop arm which work well.You do have tinker a little with them.We add a little weight to each arm and it really helps.A different kind of racing,but fun to say the least.
If you notice I tend to be a little different in playing with my toys :dance:

The offroad set is a big hit here at our house too. Can you tell me how/where you add weights to the drop arm?

Yes sir.We cut the weight just wide enough to fit between the arm's edges.In other works it is with in the arm,so to speak.Doing it this way allows the arm to still fully function and not drag on the hills.I'll get ya a picture Saturday to give you an idea.

Hi azlj,sorry just now getting you a picture.Hope you can tell here what we are doing.The lead is covered by electric tape,redneck style.Lead is cut to size so that it fits in the opening in the drop arm.That way it doesn't drag the track or keep the arm from full travel.


I've also redid the layout.Gone is the Carrera for now and more off road added.The footprint has been reduced in plans for a detailed HO drag strip.

I'll definately give the weights a try! Very cool layout. What is the foot print of the table. One of the cool things about the off road set is that you don't need long straights. It's not all about speed with these layouts.

It is just a 4x8.Yep your right,you don't need the long straights.It's about driving on these layouts..good luck with the weights!
