Pretty much done. I added more signs and then aged it. I started with a light mist of flat black (grime), followed by some light tan (dust), and finished it off with chalks. I still need to add the bike crashing through the facade, a simple interior & the roof. You get the idea though. Questions?

Randy,

I have been following this thread for a while now and enjoying it very much. This I know is a dumb one, but what are you using to cut the Popsicle sticks? Great work, Thanks!

Thanks, glad you dig it. I cut the sticks w/a utility knife & steel straight edge. I could just score them about half way through & then snap them. I even trimmed some with scissors. The craft sticks were the super cheap dollar store kind.

Cheers!

Tinkered with the scene a bit more. "Planted" the building by adding some groundwork & foliage and then added bikers & bikes. The choppers are Hot Wheels. They say they're 1/64th but they're actually 1/32. The Indian bikes are from another mfgr, I found them on the auction place. The bikers got a raw umber wash & then a mist of Dullcote. This will get a simple interior, lights & sound. A mix of "biker rock" & motorcycle sounds. Still need to detail & weather the roof. Questions?

I'm starting to lay down the center highway line. I decided to keep it simple. I used 1/8" yellow vinyl "Track Tape". In help keep the tape centered I made a simple centering tool. It's a piece of styrene, glued to slot guides to the bottom & drilled a small centering hole in the very middle.

Image[/URL]

Stick the tool in the slots, line up the tape exactly over the center of the guide, and press down as you go. The key is to work slowly. I moved the guide about an inch, lined up the tape & rubbed it down, then moved another inch etc. It doesn't take as long as it sounds, I did my whole layout in less than an hour. The other trick is to pull the tape out about 8" or a foot, then wait a few moments to let it relax & shrink back to the correct size. If you stretch it hard & then lay it down right away there will be too much tension in it & it will start to pull up when it shrinks back to normal size.

It looks OK now but this is just the first step. Next I need to age it, add some "dashed" passing sections & bring the color down & get it to blend in better. As it stands now it looks like the highway crew just painted it 5 minutes ago! Will get into that next week. Stay tuned!

I started to age the track & yellow line. Here's the way I did it.

First I used a mixture of black & asphalt colored acrylic craft paint & using an 1/8" wide brush I gave the bright yellow line a thin coat of the paint. Quickly, before it dried, I gave the fresh paint a swipe with my finger & removed about 75% of it. This thin coat really took down the brightness of the yellow & made it blend in better & not look so freshly painted.

Next, using the same brush & paint, I dabbed a few areas of the line to make it seem as if the paint had completely flaked off or had been poorly painted in some spots.

I masked off the rails & slot using 1/2" tape & then misted the track, first with primer gray spray paint, and then with flat tan spray paint. The trick is to keep the can moving & don't over do it.

Finally I painted on some cracks and patching, again, using the acrylic craft paints. It doesn't too much like plastic track anymore IMO. Questions, comments?
