Guess I've always had a passion for something different. This is..
Been looking for one of these sets in decent shape for some time.Discovered them about 2 years ago and finally pulled the trigger,so to speak. The set was put out in the 60s by Matchbox. While the track looks like a regular slot car set,it is set up to run your die cast cars. There is a spring that runs thru the slot and one places a pin on their favorite Die cast cars. The pin looks like a t-jet deal, just longer. The pin is grabbed by the spring and away you go...The speed of the spring is controlled by a motor housing with gears that connect to the spring. You then control the speed of the spring with a regular looking vintage slot car controller..
Well we got the set in.Repaired the box.Made a table.Cleaned up the slot channel with 50% alcohol, fixed some wires ,cleaned the track , oiled every thing up ,straighten some springs and added a clip to one,and greased the gears.I still plan on adding borders and guard rails. But hey the Poorboy's Race Way is working. This is already fun.Yes a tad loud but not as bad as I thought it would be..Cool to see a die cast car racing around the track..
Yes I'm a 58 year old kid that always wanted to see his Hot Wheels run around a track..If you place the pin where one would think,up front ,you can really get some sideways action..Matchbox suggest to place it in the middle, but that limits the fun ..This is needless to say all about having fun..Hope to get a video of it running. In the mean time you may want to check out some of the videos on you-tube..
