Roger's new track!

Postby SuperSlab » Mon Mar 27, 2017 11:39 am

Roger (one of our local Vancouver group members) has just completed his new track and our inaugural races were held yesterday. It is a fast, sweeping 3 lane routed MDF track with copper tape. He really did a tremendous job: just a great track to drive. He welded up a gorgeous aluminum frame and has an electric winch to raise the track to get his cars back in the garage. I took my camera along yesterday but stupidly did not get any overview shots of the track at all! Fortunately Roger got a few pictures during the construction of the track.

Winnipeg Dan doing some measurements (twice, before routing once!):

Best overview of the track, showing the flow:

The "cleaning crew" post routing: FLTR: Luf (Oldslotracer: we are really blessed to have the routed track Meister in our neck of the woods: how could anyone here build a track and NOT involve Luf??!!), club member Mike G (also has a routed track at which Luf played a starring role) and Winnipeg Dan:

And then a few shots from yesterday:

As is to be expected there were a few "adjustments" required once we started racing:

While others socialised:

And we raced. As is the wont with new tracks, things started out rather slippery yesterday but got better and better as the day progressed. First some little cars (and if you look closely you would notice the Abarth lifting the inside rear wheel!):

And a ratty Mustang:

Some more exotic:

And we socialised some more:

And raced some more:

And note that all the on track car pictures were taken at full racing speed: I will not bore you with the details but catching a fast moving slot car close-up is one of the more challenging photographic activities: even worse than my more common birds in flight efforts!

All in all a most excellent day! Life is good indeed....

Alwyn

For last two years I have visited Rob and Lez in kelowna and get few laps with them. I think I'm gonna add Richmond to my holiday destination this year....
Awesome track.
I will start to build my own track in a couple of months time and still working on design.

Have fun there.

Regards Dariusz :banana-dance:

Congrats to Roger on his new track, can't wait to see how he landscapes it. His old track sure was impressive.

Thanks all for the nice words everybody.

I believe I saw the clubhouse (or at at least A clubhouse!) on a shelf in Roger's office. I thought I heard Roger say that the cemetery went with his old track but I am not sure. If so then that one is likely dead and buried....

Awesome track.

You will HAVE to come visit us Dariusz! We now have five tracks (well, actually 6 seeing as Perry has two tracks in his garage) in the area so you can spend a lot of time here having fun. And if you come close to the end of the year you can perhaps participate in Perry's annual monster race? We typically get >30 racers out for that one. We have a total of around 20-ish guys that show up for racing semi-regularly with 10 - 15 guys of the total at any one of our regular Friday races.

Looking forward to seeing that!

Radarek wrote:Have fun there.

Absolutely! Other things may change from night to night and from race to race but FUN is the one constant.

Life is good....
