Moonshinners Ridge Off Road Track

Postby ourwayband » Tue Mar 08, 2016 9:33 pm

The starting of something wild??
Well maybe crazy would be a better word for it.. ;)
I've had the SCX off road track sets in the past.A unique system that is some what a copy of the older Spanish Scalextric Total Traction System that came out several years ago .With 4 wheel drive vehicles utilizing suspension and long spring loaded drop arms.A track system with jumps, ramps, hills, etc.
I've been missing my SCX stuff, but thought this time we would try to make our own track. I've been inspired by Downtowndeco's Route 66 Rally track build along with others. While mine will be different in most aspects we did borrow his Track bending technique for the hills. If you haven't followed his build, your missing out on a great layout. We will be using the SCX off road cars along with some customized trucks. In doing so the layout will have steeper hills, jumps and will be just plain ruff in spots.
I hope to build this on a 4x8 table, but it may grow just a tad as layouts seem to do..
Here is some test shots to see what the trucks can handle.Yep a rug layout..
More to come I hope.. ;)

Cool Rusty! That looks to be a fun layout. I have a small oval set up of the SCX off road track in the infield of my H.O. track. It is a fun track to run on.

That definitely looks entertaining!
I have never played with any of the "off road" layout stuff - will be looking forward to seeing updates on this! :D

Very cool! Looking forward to seeing this as it progresses!

It is important to test as you go. The irst off road layout I built had one hill taht was just too hard for most of the cars to get up consistently. Likewise, I have a couple of bumpy off road spots on my Route 66 layout that I had to tinker with to eliminate deslots. You want it challenging, you want it to be off road, but you don't want it to be frustrating.

Well ,it's been a while, but we are finally moving on with the layout..
Had to take down Harry's trains.I know enjoys racing them, but we needed the room.. ;)
Playing around with this set up.Made a few obstacles that are a tad bit more truck ready.
Hope to finalize the track and then get on with some landscaping, track painting, etc. This will be set up for the SCX off road type trucks..Hoping to also have a few of the 1/43 STS trucks to try out toooo.. :D

Looks fun! I love these kind of layouts. I wish they were still offering off road slots.
