The 'Cuda Raceway

My son, Henry, is 6. We nicknamed him The 'Cuda. (He used to be The Tuna, because he would squirm like a bluefin when you'd try to hold him.) His interest in slot cars comes and goes, so I thought a small layout on a simple table in his room might keep the pilot light burning. This is what I came up with. I have a ton of AXF track and accessories, but I've always loved the Computer Control Center feature of the Ghost Car set. This way he can practice when I'm not around.

NICE!!!! My son is 7 and I have him set up with my AFX track and cars.

He's wanting to race 1/32 with the old man, but we'll start with the AFX stuff 1st

I knew after 30 years it may come in handy.

Nice layout!!!

My local hobby shop guy suggested I start my son on 1/32 scale and strongly cautioned me against HO. I found the opposite to be true. Especially with the new AFX power pack, which has three speed settings, my son can handle the learning curve pretty well. I also think it's easier for him to clean the rails/pickups and make layouts on his own.

I started with HO in 1962. Over the years, I have wondered how things might have been different if I started with a Strombecker or Eldon set. I did add 1/32nd in 1965 or so, but that was when hobby shops had slot car tracks to go play on. There was never going to be a track as big as 1/32 in our tiny little house. My folks would have to move out!

Very cool! I started out with Aurora AFX track when I was young and learned a LOT with it.
My father had a 1/24 set that we would set up on occasion to run - but for fun in a small package, there was no beating the HO set! :D

Started with ho scale about that age. Ran them into my early twenties. Then found rc cars.

My grandson just turned 4 at the first of the year, he is handling 1:32 just fine. I bought it a year ago and that was close for his grasping operating it, he did ok and understood the "don't floor it" concept, but got bored quickly and just wanted to manually push the cars on the track. I have to hand it to the SCX folks, last year, those two cars took a lick'n and are still tick'n.

When I brought the set home and opened it, I thought "what the heck!". At that time I thought all slots where HO size. I was a little disappointed but it has turn out good, because now I am a 1:32'r
