How to handle cars coming off track

Not wanting to hi-jack the thread but I am interested in what you mentioned Dan about digital chips controlling each lane have you posted any details on how you have done this? Cheers

B.yingling - could this be done in software too through a central computer? The program receives voltage info from each lane, and digitally restricts it according to the settings entered. This was how I'd envisioned controlling ghost cars and 'feathering' voltage to all cars to create realistic acceleration patterns.

In the same vein , we usually race Crash and Learn to get newbies up to speed.
Initially if you crash your done and get to watch . The learning is that you drive the track not the other competitors.
Next step up as they get better with practice is Three strikes. After 3 strikes or offs, you sit and watch. Of course during all of this The newbie is responsible for getting their own car while we go on yellow flag. They soon get tired of watching and self marshalling. Yes it seems harsh, but it does work.
Eventually they get to where they are more consistent. This is what we all strive for in encouraging and teaching , with both negative and positive reinforcement .

A small correction on the oXigen system: you can limit the speed of a specific ID using Chrono (the RMS provided by slot.it).
When I beta-tested RCS-O2, you could also set individual settings for each car/driver.

The average Joe has another.

There is no magic answer. For straight out of the box? Well, they will just have to LEARN to control the car. Otherwise it WILL continue to happen.

If they won't slow down, let them chase after their own car. Nothing can replace forcing them to physically put their own car back in time after time.

You can buy tires, adjust voltage...etc. But either your drivers get it, or they don't.

My 9 year old granddaughter can race non-magnet with ease. Just taking some some with them goes a country mile.

I am building a small portable track using Artin track and cars (if I can find any) to take to children hospitals. I am experimenting with fore and aft guides/pins of a cone shape, along with variable power and added weights/magnets to keep cars in the slots.

For the portable track going to children's hospitals, I think an adjustable power supply will be an important addition. My grandsons learned to race with a 4.5 volt wall wart I got at a surplus store hooked up to the track. The cars could go fast enough to deslot so learning was involved, but acceleration was limited so the cars weren't twitchy.

Also don't forget kids love to crash, and making them crash proof will take some of the fun out of racing.
