I am not sure how you would fit a carrera chip in a caterham.
I have recently digitalized one and I had to use the smallest chip scalex makes: the F1 dpr...and it was a tight fit.

You'd have to get a chip from Germany. There's a company that makes a chip that 1in squared and the sensor is on an extended wire. This allows you to move the chip to the rear, under the hood, where ever and still be able to place the sensor where it belongs. Of course this comes at a cost of about $40 but this is probably the best solution. The other issue is, is the car wide enough at the sensor to to cross the one on the track?

This is how I have chipped mine:
Image

I used one of the scalex F1 DPR chips. After removing the plastic cover these are the smallest chips in the market right now.
I also put the IR led on leads.

I soldered the wiring loom from one of the scalex gokarts so that I can use the 4-pin plug to connect the chip.

I installed the chip near the driver (this requires material removal from the passenger seat.

But once you put on the seat cover the chip is not visible anymore.

As you can see, with such a small chip is already a struggle.
If carrera does a chip with a similar footprint then you might be able to fit in this car.
