Counting 3 lanes

The idea of running a 3 lane track is kind of appealing. But the control unit only has sensors to count 2 lanes. I read that you can install a pit lane adapter in the 3rd lane and count laps that way, but that lane could also refuel by stopping in mid race.

I have an old lap counter. Do you think it would be possible to wire it in to a control unit to allow for lap counting across 3 lanes? I might open it up to take a look inside.

I am using Carrera track.

Im no expert, but I now have some experience. On my wood D1XX track, I used a regular lane change section cut down for the entrance to my pit lane. In the pit lane, I inserted the fuel LED and circuit board so I could refuel. As a by product, the fuel sensor counts a lap when you cross over it. It works both with Carrera soft ware and Yingling soft ware.
