I used a slitting saw on my lathe but want a cheap cut off saw like Marty suggests. Marty has given the Dremel method for tubing. If it is a short piece cut it proud (too big) and then chuck it in your drill press. Lower the piece's exposed tip on to a flat file. After it is perfectly straight then dress the end with the file for burrs. Take the tubing out (it is still too long) and mark off the length you want and but the freshly dressed end in the drill press and repeat the procedure bu this time grind to the line. This does not work with super short or pieces that are long. It is an experimentation thing. My drill press is huge (350 pounds) and so a lot of tubing is inside the chuck. I expose as little as possible of the tube. There are many factors like speed, fineness of file, thickness of tubing, etc.
