For me, It would look good on the shelf next to some other vintage slot stuff. However, I think I would use the optical RPM tool for ease.

Mind that the max. rpm displayed are 3000. So you need something to reduce the rpm of the motor or axle you want to check.

A nice show item on the shelf, but for serious reading I would use a modern device - laser or IR.

I am fascinated by the shipping...

They went to some trouble making the side panels clear so you could see the gears spinning. The gears are all brass, nicely cut and sealed inside the body. There isn't even a lubrication hole anywhere on it. There are no instructions at all, and no explanation for the sawtooth edges of the base. It really is an oddity of the first order. The rubber band that holds a small bag of spare spring connectors on the base is one of those transparent natural rubber bands from Japan you used to see in the 1950s and 60s.
