shrink tubing/heat gun

When I convert a car to digital (Carrera) I like to use heat shrink tubing on my solder connections to make them more sturdy, insulated better, and look cleaner. I have been using a lighter, but I know this is not a good solution. I know there are variable temperature heat guns out there, but I am afraid they might cook some of the electrical bits since they cover a pretty broad area. They are also quite expensive. Do any of you have any suggestions for a better solution?

I use a inexpensive heat gun i purchased at Ace Hardware for the same thing I believe it was 24.99 and has a low and high setting I just use the low setting works like a charm.

I use the neck of my soldering iron. I get it close to the tubing without touching it.
