I'm still on the fence regarding my future wood track. It will either be the airport theme that I described or something along the lines of a Mille Miglia. It all depends on if I want to play around with elevation changes or leave it flat.

Goosenapper, what ever theme you decide on, i would do some elevation as it adds to the enjoyment of running your cars. I used the l-girdder system it is a strong and very flexable base. Tim

Certainly elevation changes are out of the question with an airfield circuit. Mike Jacobsen, whose Dad ran an MG Magnette at Reeves Field on Terminal Island in 1953, tells me that his Dad pulled out of the race as the track was boring. From an historic perspective, however, it would be very cool to recreate one of these venues - also lots of very interesting cars, from Jag XKs to ferraris, Allards and lots of interesting Specials. Airplanes weren't uncommon either.

Right you are. Lars was Mike's Dad and of course Mike inherited the car as well as his interest. Mike was at all the major venues watching his Dad from the sidelines and although he wasn't old enough to race, he qualifies as having been there so I frequently consult with him on who drove what and where.

Reeves Field was a cool race with many well known (or soon to be well known) names as you pointed out. It was also the first race to be held within the Los Angeles city limits and was a real rough and tumble event. Check out this footage of the under 1500 cc cars
