I’m finished with the colouring of the base board. The track limit lines and the curbing are done. The tarmac pieces are done, so is the pit lane and paddock. The river and the old service entrance to the old Air force base, in the far left corner are finished. I’ve also “planted” the grass, dried tea leaves, in the in field and around the pit entrance and after the hairpin. The memorial at the old main gate, the far right corner, is up and the vintage airplane will be installed. Now the “grass” needs to be painted.

This is a general overview of the track.

After the painting, the dreaded wiring will follow.

Till soon.

It’s a case of the grass is always greener on the other side … ;-)

Now the buildings.

The service entrance to the old Air base.
Image

The Willow river.
Image

What shall we do without the power of the air waves?
Image

The press will have a good view from this old tower.
Image

Looking over the in-field towards the pit area.
Image

Looking down Dunottar avenue.
Image

The new public toilets made from an old container.
Image

The paddock, some reclaimed Ferrari pit buildings and someone forgot to take their trailer home.
Image

The cheap seats.
Image

Once a proud memorial of the old Air base.
Image

Up Valhalla road towards the once imposing main entrance to the base.
Image

Now it’s the wiring and the spectators and competitors …

More later.

Gert

Looks like fun. Nice 'gate guard' airplane mounted on the pylon. Every airbase needs one. Thanks for sharing the progress.

For our first race day, we invited some Porsche owners for some demo runs and an allcomers race.

This is what turned up! A grid of 15 of Stuttgard’s finest.
Image

917’s including a Spyder.
Image

Group C’s and a Joest.
Image

935’s
Image

911 GT1
Image

Modern GT3’s
Image

And a very special Daytona Prototype from the Brumos stable.
Image

A last look at them as they run down Dunottar avenue and round Hercules.

We might invite the Fords or the Ferarri’s next.

Today was our annual Italian track day and the usual crowd with their expensive toys arrived for some exhibition runs and a very friendly race.

The Historic Ferrari club president with his p4

The local butcher in his famous 312PB

Yes, we picked him up twice, the club BBQ is coming up soon!

A new entrant this year! The unusual sight of a well prepared 333SP.

Image

A crowd favourite, which only comes out of the local showroom once a year.

Image

Some more recent cars, which still compete in our GT3 championship. A rare 430 and an ex Le Mans 458.

Image

Image

The local Doctor brought his Lancia Turbo Group 5.

Image

And, finally, the Clubmans champion of last year showed off his Alfa GTAm.

Image

The start of the very friendly race.

Image

This year victory went to the 458.

During the week leading up to the Italian track day, we got an email from the Ferrari factory, saying that they would like to do a roll-out at our track of a secret project. Could we keep the crowds at bay until their security guys give the go-ahead, before we let anyone into the track?

Under the firm gaze of the security guys, we could only manage long distance shots with a mobile phone.

It finally broke cover and the cameras went beserk!

Could this be THAT long awaited Le Mans LMP1 …
