Routing for Braid

Postby scooter6 » Tue Feb 10, 2015 7:19 pm

Hi ,I just finished routing the slots on my MDF track and being the first time at doing this I have some routing mistakes. I want to fix them with Bondo and was wondering if after the repair if I will have any issues with routing the gain for the braid where the Bondo is ? Thank you

Should be ok. I had a bad spot on my oval and the gains routed just fine.

Another way to fix routing mistakes is to glue strips of wood in the slots and then fill with Durham's Water Putty. One of our tracks had been rerouted in one place back when it had copper tape. A couple of years ago it was converted to braid and there was no problem with routing the braid recesses.

I was not sure if Durham's water putty would dry too hard and the router bit chipping it out instead cutting through it. That is why I thought of using Bondo for the repairs, good idea about using the wood strips to fill in the mistakes, Thanks

Bondo? we call it builders bog. I used it on all my four track builds. I make lots of mistakes.
It routes as easily or better than the mdf. Keep the router speed high and you should have no problems.

Bondo is your friend. I have used it a lot on my wood tracks over the years. It routes really well.
