For 'community coffee makers' I think the pre-filled filters are a God send!

I have discovered why some people should never have been given the ability to make coffee :puke-huge:

On a related subject . . . . my wife has always been an 'inconsistent coffee maker'.

However I have found a new way of getting her to make good coffee all the time. It was so simple, it definately rates a "round shoulders & flat forehead' award. The round shoulders for thinking about how to come up with a fix for the problem and the flat forehead for finding one that works so well and is foolproof.

You know that little scale that we all have hidden back in the slot car room? Well I'm here to tell you that it will make all your worries of making good coffee simply disappear.

I keep it set on grams and put a coffee filter on the scale prior to turning it on. If you turn it on first, no problem, just hit the 'Tare' button to zero the scale with the filter in place.

To make coffee to my liking, I use 3 grams of Wal-Mart Dark Roast coffee per coffee maker cup of water. So for a 12 cup pot, I use 36 grams of coffee. The coffee always comes out the same.

You would be suprised how little the difference is in grams when you're measuring out the coffee! No wonder the coffee was inconsistent prior to using the scale.

Problem with coffee is the flavor isn't reliable. What's good one month isn't too good the next. What we get that's grown around here is really hit-and-miss, and at $20-25 per pound you really feel the disappointment.

My stepson used to work at a highend "coffee shop" and he would bring me home small bags of CONA (spelling ?) and I mixed it with store bought, this stuff turned anything into a go cup a joe!

KONA coffee is from Hawaii originally and costs a fortune, but some sneaky bozos in the coffee biz (that's what's wrong with American business today), will from time to time sell something completely different under a slick name change like Cona, Lakona, Kona Coast, etc. Because its good coffee they substitute they don't always get caught. People think they are getting expensive Kona but what they get is a good coffee from just about anywhere. I'm not sure I'm good enough to tell by taste, but I am told that the way they get caught is that some serious coffee intenditore can tell immediately from the smell, taste and looks.

I've been using Gevalia House Blend, which is a medium roast. I've tried a lot of coffee, and this is one of the better ones I've found. Not bad for being found in a grocery store. :)

I wish I knew the name. The VP for my supplier received some Columbian stuff at a conference years ago from a South American distributor. I must have caught him at the right time because he asked if I would like it since he does not like strong coffee. I jumped on it.

Now an aside, Who in the heck ruins coffee with cream and sugar?
