A new racing buddy

Postby ListerStormGT » Tue Oct 23, 2012 7:45 pm

For as long as I have been into 1/32 slot cars and had a home track set up in the garage I have always complained about nobody else to race with. Well that all changed tonight when I took my 3yr old son Scott out there and let him have at it. I really haven't been around the board or doing anything with slots these past few months due to some personal issues but I have been slowly getting back into things. I got the track cleaned up over the weekend and ran some cars on Sunday for the first time since I have been back from the trip to Dave and Harry's in June. I thought it was time to let Scott try since he is like his dad and love cars...I turned the voltage down to about 5 volts and we had a blast, we ran all the cars in my stable and then I put on some SCX cars with lights and turned all the lights out, he loved it! We were out there for over a hour but of course getting him to stop and go inside was a job in itself! I was thinking about trying to hook up something for a ghost car but now I don't have too, I got a racing buddy now. :D

That's great Lister! Good to see your son enjoying the hobby. Your track is awesome too. I borrowed your idea of using ceiling tile for scenery. Got it all cut and glued but with recent hip surgery I haven't had the time or inclination to start painting it yet.

Definitely good to see you back, Lee. Have you begun to teach him the mystical union of the cerulean and the cadmium tangerine? How about a Gulf tricycle? Come to think of it, that's not such a bad idea...

Hey Lee!

Good to hear from you again buddy!

Looks like you and Scott couldn't be having a better time!

That's what this hobby is about!

Much like you since the local club of guys don't get together very often anymore, I have 2 slot buddies also!

Abbey and Anna can't get enough racing in with their old Dad!

I end up track marshalling usually since they won't let me get track time!!! LOL!!!

It is a great time to spend with your family enjoying your interests together and promoting the hobby!

Keep it in the slot and not on its lid!!!!

Wayne

Great racing buddy, Lister. My grandson used to hold the controller backwards and use his thumb, just like your son. I guess it is kind of universal as I see Wayne's daughter is using the same grip. Kudos to all the Dads and Granddads for sharing your enthusiasm.
