Racin' tunes

Postby goosenapper » Thu Sep 20, 2012 6:50 pm

Do you have a song that you hear that always gets you in the mood for racing, be it real 1:1 cars or the slot variety? :music-guitarred:

For me, it's Daddy's Cup, by Drive-By Truckers, off of their album The Dirty South. Here is a link to that tune set to an odd racing background and montage on youtube. While this song doesn't exactly get my adrenaline pumping, it does get my racing juices flowing! The lyrics paint a story of a family racing heritage, complete with a passing reference to a Petty and Earnhardt rivalry. When I listen to this song in the car, my foot always seems to get just a little bit heavier than normal.

So how about you guys? Is there a song out there that gets you in the mood for trading paint?

"Everything I love is from '59
My first guitar and that girl of mine
Everything I want is from '59
I guess I'm behind the times
'Cause everything I love's from '59"
--Brian Setzer, The Stray Cats

"Ignition
She turned the key and my heart jumps
Ignition
She sure can make my spark plug pump

Well she’s got hydramatic hips
Lips like fluid drive
And if you don’t believe man
Just take her for a ride

Some say that she’s built for comfort
Others built for speed
Well she just makes my engine race
She’s everything I need

Ignition
She turned the key and my heart jumps
Ignition
She sure can make my spark plug pump"
--Brian Setzer, The Stray Cats

I have a whole stack of CD's to play when I'm on the track, from "Thunder Road" to "Rapid Roy, That Stock Car Boy", to "Hey Little Cobra" to all these, and about 60 more, last I looked.

Here is one that always comes to mind. I remember it back when I was on a pit crew for a modified and at the same raced an old bomber at the local dirt track.

"Shut Down" by the Beach Boys is the big one. Then all the other old "car" songs: Little GTO, Dead Man's Curve, Spring Little Cobra, Little Deuce Coupe, etc.

It's not a racing tune, but Johnny Cash's One Piece At a Time is a great car song. It makes me want to dig through my parts bin and try to put together something that runs out of miss-matched parts.

Here's one for ya... Fast Car, by Tracy Chapman

Not really a background for racing, but I sure did like that song years ago.
