Right. When I was in high school and still a hot rodder/drag racer about half the kids in my circle
of friends had their cars in "hot rod primer", which was a dark grey that was almost black. These
cars were either still being worked on or the owner was waiting to get enough money to buy the
paint. Metal flake and diamond dust were in vogue, and the materials were pretty expensive at
that time. My '63 Sport Fury was Metalflake Flame, which was red and orange flake mixed together.
It was then fogged with black along the edges and the sides were paneled in black lace. The whole
business was then covered with 14 coats of clear, hand rubbed after every other coat.
