Looking good for a 45th birthday! Worth more (much more) today than when it's namesake came into being. I'd certainly have a 40 year old version like this if I wouldn't be scared to park it anywhere I went. So, I settled for a retro version a few years ago and am very pleased.

Harry - really? I was all excited until that showed up...

Seriously, I love me some Scalextric Mustangs!

This will not matter to anyone except a nerd such as myself, but this car & driver combo actually raced in at least 3 and perhaps as many as 8 sanctioned Trans Am races in 1972. John Gimbel is listed on the SCCA race reports for 8 races that year, but the car number was only recorded for 3 of them.

His best finish was 5th at Watkins Glen on June 17th.

When my 1965 Mustang was in the shop getting new paint, I drove a huge 1973 Mustang Grande Coupe for a week. Scared me to death. Driving blind is not a good thing. Couldn't see out of it front or rear. I think the seat was bottomed out, but that rear window was a joke, anyway. Besides, I could feel how ugly it was when I drove it, paisley vinyl roof and all. Years later, I drove a '71 Fastback, and it was like a different car altogether, but they were more or less the same car with a different roof. Still couldn't see much.

But, if as a teenage guy in that era I'd leap over a bunch of cute girls to see something like this.

I know Chevy and Mopar guys will disagree, but to me this is as good as it gets. I could of had one too, bought a '69 Mercury Cougar instead. Loved it but just looking at this car makes me want to cry it's so damn purtey. And, gas was 35 cents a gallon.

I too admire those Mustangs. First car was a 65 hardtop with the 289, 4-speed, limited slip rear end and rally pack. Paid $450 for that car in 71 and then dumped another 1500 into it to get it from being a mosquito fogging machine and then in late Aug of 72 I purchased a 72 Mach 1 with the only option being the heater and automatic trans but with 7 miles on the od. I was in seventh heaven for the next years except for when waiting for the transmission to shift. Then fast forward to 95 and my Kids and wife dipped into their savings for a down payment on number 1054 96 cobra which I've been repaying back since but enjoy the 5-speed stick.
