Happy Groundhogs Day

Postby slothead » Sat Feb 02, 2019 12:57 am

It's always been one of my favorite days. The wife and I seriously considered going to Puxatawny, PA this year for the celebration and see he ritual, but since the movie became a cult classic the crowd has swelled to around 40,000 people each year. Everything in the area was booked. Found something for $700 a night but decided to pass.

Hope the little bugger doesn't see his shadow so we get an early spring- not very likely.

If he sees his shadow we'll have six more weeks of winter. If not we'll only have 41 more days of winter.

It was 6 below zero here in Maine when I started this thread earlier today. But, thanks to Puxatawny Phil we'll be starting work on the garden in a few days. If the snow melts overnight I might even be able to watch the Superbowl out on the deck tomorrow.

Sorry but we still waiting for old man winter to show in these parts. There be a chance that he will make a brief showing on Monday am but for the most parts it has been short sleeve weather here in the mean time the rest of the county is in a ice age.....

To those who might doubt the prowess of the pudgy one - Puxatawny Phil, please note: it was -6 degrees here in Maine Saturday morning before the chubby cheeked wonder made his prognostication and today it was 41 degrees. Students start wearing shorts here at 37 degrees.

At this rate it'll be in the 80's by the end of the week.

Another day of the transition to an early spring. It got up to 48 degrees today, which is virtually unheard of for central Maine the first week in February.

If this keeps up the inevitable will happen very soon - poolside tsunami!
