2019 Slot Car Resolutions

Postby slothead » Tue Jan 01, 2019 10:48 pm

It is said that sharing a plan with others increases the odds it will be fulfilled, because we want to live up to our word. So, with the new year upon us what are we willing to put forth as our intentions related to slot cars and racing?

As I look forward to returning to full retirement there should be more time to complete slot car related projects. I'm blessed with a large heated space in our barn to do whatever I want. Currently most of my time up here is spent napping in a comfy rocker recliner, followed by reading and posting on the HRW forum. Every now and then I actually run and time some cars on either the oval or road course and move forward with simulating races.

But, what lags behind the most is adding scenery to the road course. Shelby-Hendrix Speedway is now over 5 years old and hosts 3 classic racing series using nearly 100 RTR cars. As soon as I got the outer lane taped and working I started running cars and since then have only added fencing around the corners to keep cars on the track and table. My resolution for 2019 is to turn SHS from a barren MDF desert into the great looking track it is in my imagination. This will require learning some new techniques and skills, but I'm looking forward to the challenge. I'll start another post with photos to show the process and result.

What's your New Year slotting resolution?

Just having a quiet comfy place to nap is probably on the wishlist for many of us!

I am hoping to have a working track this year, it has been far too long... I found a shop to cnc the top, I did it by hand and it didn’t turn out the way I had hoped, just finalizing the details and should have the pieces by the end of the month!

Create at least two new molds for the Showdown Series.

A new printer for making decals the way I want them.

Paint and tune a whole mess of Montes

I see an entire 40+ car Daytona field of all Monte Carlos by Harry, each in an authentic regalia....

As far as slots go, I see myself heading more and more towards the drag racing segment. At last count, I had almost 20 1/24 and 1/32 cars set up for drags, and there's 3 more on the bench as I type this.
When we started this, I never thought it'd be so much fun. But when you get guys who put more emphasis on keeping it fun rather than the serious "win at all costs" attitude, it really becomes a blast.
The really cool thing about drag racing is, it's a one shot deal each time. Everybody, even guys who aren't as good as others running 3 minute races on a roadcourse, has a 50/50 chance of winning every time they come to the line.
And whenever there's a really close race, we're all like.... WOW!!!

:angry-tappingfoot: I solemnly swear to : make headway on some of my languishing or incomplete projects, not let carp pile up on my work bench, restock my parts in a timely fashion, get some landscaping done on the track ... :liar:

Same slot resolutions every year ... I yam what I yam.

Complete the stack of projects, at least one a month.
Do scenery on my track.

Race and have fun....not just work on cars.

As stated in a prior post by model murdering, I too need to make cleaning up crap a top priority. All of my work surfaces are cluttered, and so much other stuff has accumulated in the mancave I can't pull out my road course on casters to start planning scenery.

Just the usual of finishing a project once it has been started like everyone else here. But the biggest project will be to finish a Mustang project that I started a few years back and this time it looks promising to me for after 2-1/2 years and two medical issues I finally got the radiator replaced in my 1:1 Mustang Cobra so those overheating problems should be behind me.

Get the wooden track built, de clutter, and get some paint on the cars under construction.
Buy fewer,...willpower goes out with bath water, as you know

Finish landscaping my new track by spring when I will no longer be able to explain the bare Shaper sheets by calling them snow covered mountains
