Afternoon at the Rat Shop

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Sat Aug 12, 2017 6:17 pm

Our friends down the road invited us out to see the latest project and what a very unique one it is.

46 Chevy Stylemaster (Business Coupe) This is a rare beauty.

First we need a plan.

The name Risky Business :)

500 bucks and a case of beer had this one saved :)

Shop artists in action. Terry on the right is the proud owner. Longtime wrench, but his first baby. We are happy for him.

Plenty of original left to appreciate.

Start of the "tubbing". I just want to take my Dremel and finish it :)

The General inspecting. She will making some custom decals.

Why it's almost ready!

What none of the new have today - Character in Chrome

The shop's REAL Boss trying out the new plasma cutter :)

Sure is fun to sit around a good old shop and watch a rat come to life.

I thought rat rods were strictly a way to salvage unrestorable cars. This hulk looks damned good. They are not really going to do a belly-dragging, primer paint rat rod are they?

By the way, "Stylemaster" is new to me. Have you ever seen that before? Before I go looking it up, I just wondered.

Okay, I looked it up. The "Stylemaster" was the bottom line trim level, with "Fleetline" above it with more chrome. The Stylemaster was offered in the full line the same way the Fleetline was, with woodies, trucks, 2 & 4door versions, coupes, sedans, and cabriolets. I had no idea Chevys were so varied or offered such fancy versions of the whole line. That car is a real find. I hope they treat it with respect. A brilliant shiny paint would be gorgeous.

Not sure where that was hiding - but looks like a nice solid starting point for a build!
Thanks for sharing the pics Harry! :D

There is no real method for making a Rat. Different approaches to say the least. It will be one fast mover when they are finished, how it will look? Anyone's guess.

Operating a plasma cutter in flip flops could give you a hot foot :scared-eek:

Nice looking start, hope you get to show us the progress on this one

That's a nice one right there! Don't see too many of the Biz coupes.

Now, let's talk about chopping the top and putting some skirts on her. :D
