Looking at those commercials really brings home how pathetic these computer driven cars today are. There was nothing on those cars I couldn't fix or replace on my minimum wage summer job in high school, and that's assuming whatever went wrong (rarely), wasn't under the 5 year warranty. If I could have handled the job and high school, I would have bought one and still have the car today, I'm sure of it. I remember having to pass up a deal on the Superbee that had a $107/month note with nothing down. There was a '69 Barracuda SE that I still wish I had gotten my hands on.

Well I wanted a RoadRunner but dad wouldn't pay the insurance. At 18 after working my senior year at UPS I purchased a 71 Satellite with a 318 for $3,000. $1,000 down and $87 a month for two years. It ended up being hotrodded. Swapped 340 heads on it, cam, four barrel on a Edelbrock manifold, B&M Torque converter and shifter, headers with side pipes.

Today I drive the RoadRunner I didn't get with a 426 HP 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT8.

arroldn, did you ever take the Plymouth out on the "long lonely" on I-40 going toward Memphis and wind it up? One of our guys (Mopar, of course), broke 140mph out there, bone stock. Nowadays, I-40 isn't the superslab it was. I wouldn't be comfortable over 80 any more on that stretch. Thump-thump, thump-thump...

I was 20 yrs. old, in the Navy & stationed at North Chicago.
In 1969 AMC would let you order any engine, transmisson, rear end, etc in any model car they sold.
I ordered a copper colored, 69 Javelin. 290, four barrel, four speed, Borg Warner transmission, Hurst shifter,
Posi-Traction, vinyl top. (All factory) I got the dinky wheel/hubcap/tire combo & added my own American mags/Firestone tires.
All for $2900 & change..........WIsh I'd kept it.

If you imagine American racing wheels & a black vinyl top.this was my car.
I located one 4 or 5 yrs. ago ...................... brought it home.
Got some work done....................until I discovered "homeracingworld"

Never got the car that fast. Remember speedo only went to 120 back then. Now my SRT saw 160 on I-65 coming back from Bullitt Speedway in Louisville. Was running beside a Vette before he pulled off.

Strangebrew,
Put the controller down and get that ride finished. Looks good. Go for it. I assume the disk brakes on the front are an upgrade or am I wrong?
My brother had a 69 Dodge SuperBee Six Pack. I think it even had drum brakes if memory serves me correctly.

Way to put some stopping power behind that little AMC.
