A nice start! I do tons of photos with my phone and ipad. The best tip is selecting the focus point. That will also allow the camera to set a better white balance and you can change the exposure by dragging the little sun icon up and down. It will also set the focus point and it will hold that point. Setting a good white balance especially under indoor lighting is really the key to getting better photos in general with a phone.
