I read about some of the things that have been made from soybeans a few years back (probably waiting for a dentist), and there was a reference to "wartime exigencies". They should have listed this kind of thing. That's a very neat little collection.

Illinois and Indiana are full of WWII collectors, so you might part with one if it seems okay with the giver of the gift. A ceremonial knife sold for over a half million a few years back.

Nope I just checked and it looks like they are selling for $30. You'll have them for decoration and great slotcar story for another 70 years, I guess.

Cool stuff Dave! Being from there, I know about such things. Did you know Ford used to make their Dash knobs from the same material? I had a 40 Ford pickup that got the doors left open on the farm. The cows ate all dash knobs! Licked them clean to the stem. They also ate all the darn upholstery too.
Turned out fair enough though, next visit, we had steaks!
Thanks for sharing these.

I knew a guy who used a '56 Plymouth wagon for a goathouse. He said he couldn't keep them out of there, so why not? They stood on the roof and the hood, and crammed themselves inside when it was cold and wet. That was a very smelly Plymouth! I always wanted to snatch that old 318 out of there, mechanical lifters and all. It inspired me later to take a '56 Wagon from a guy moving away to make a fishing car out of. It was a tank... ah memories.

Old Henry made a lot of car parts out of soybeans, there is a picture of him "testing" the trunklid with an axe.....he was supposed to hit it with the blunt side but he goofed and used the blade......guess what happened?

One of our members from the North might be able to send you one of these to chew on your soy bean ones?
