I painted my 71 Fleetside a Red Anodized type paint, had to put down a chrome base, I painted the cab and bed separately but at the same time and same # of coats and it looked good....

until I put the cab and bed together you could see a small color difference, so ok no big deal I just sprayed the entire truck again

after it dried it has a fog\haze look on the hood and roof, with a cotton tee I can polish it almost away but in a few hours it comes back

will clear coat take care of this?
if I use a wax or rubbing compound what will I need to do to spray clear on?
this is like my 4th paint job on this truck and I would hate to strip it again

Its a rattle can I think its enamel but none of the other coats did this its got 2 coats chrome and 5-6 coats of red and they looked like red chrome, now the sides are fine, just the roof and hood have this haze, like dew in the morning

Jon, I hate to tell you this, but the degassing thing is what you are looking at, like Jeremy's first guess, but it is further complicated by the fact that the lower layers were still gassing out when more coats were applied. You might try a gentle heating, but that's really asking for trouble. There's also a possibility that over time it might clear up, but that would be a very slim chance. Enamel takes a very long time to completely cure- days and days sometimes. I suspect at least one of the sprays you used was enamel and that it didn't take you weeks to paint it.

It had been weeks since my last coat, before the haze happened, what about polishing it?

Most types of spray paint dry quickly, however all bets are off if you spray on a humid day. Water will condense out of the air as the solvent in the paint evaporates. If you get water in the paint it will dry very slowly, some makes may take a very long time. It is always risky to put one type of paint on top of another, if you have to do that wait at least a day between coats. It does not hurt to do some testing before you put a new paint combination on a car.

I put down chrome waited a week
the next weekend I did 5 coats of the red no problems waited hours between coats, looked like red chrome
2 weeks after that is when I noticed a shade difference in the bed and cab
then I sprayed the same red paint, in an AC basement, very little moisture
and the next day I noticed the haze, that was a week ago

If I buff or try wax what will I have to do to prep for clear? turtle wax ok?
my next step is to paint it woodland camo :violence-instagib:

FROM 2001 :o

man that stuff is great it even made the good spots better and its the last bottle known to man
