Unfortunately lm painting walls instead of cars, women why can't they be happy with a reasonable hut and a great man cave? anyway We have a room with a boarder up around the ceiling that she wants save when we ( I ) do a colour change. Any tips on how to mask the boarder it's one of those four inch wide paper types. I'm hesitant to tape it and I dam sure don't feel like cutting in a dead straight line with my brush any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave!

Dave there a couple of different types of frog tabe, blue and green , one of them may be your answer as they are not supposed to stick to tight, but the edge does seal.
It might be possible to test on a small inconspicuous area. Only guarantee is if it dosent work, Mrs will definitely notice it.

Thanks Bob I've got the green frog tape and just checked it on the website and found they have a yellow version for delicate surfaces ( wallpaper) is on the list CROSS YOUR FINGERS EVERYONE :pray:

I just used the yellow frog tape to mask a wallpaper border and I had no problems! Good luck.

I feel your pain. Yesterday, Wendy and I just finished painting the entire interior of our home. Where tape sucks is bleeding. I don't care what brand you use, they will all bleed. Use the yellow tape as stated above to not hurt the wallpaper border, and a VERY thin smear of clear, latex caulk along the line where the paint will go.

You'll get perfect lines everytime as the caulk seals the edge. I just did this on several color transitions between rooms or an accent wall and it works.

Don't try to pull the tape tight, that just won't work. Apply the tape without pulling so it goes into every little crevice. If you burnish the tape edge, it will always work. The failure isn't the tape, its the inconsistent wall surface.

I use to use a 2 foot mud knife, lay the edge on what you want to protect and paint up to it with a roller

This was on the job when you don't have time to tape

Try sticking the tape on cloth then put it on the edge of the border. That usually takes off the really sticky part off and keeps tape from pulling up the surface you want to protect.

Those borders are great things!!!! Make the trimming part easy.

Thanks to everyone for the advice I just removed the yellow frog tape and succeeded in my quest. Turned out very well considering it's grey over green and best of all it's been approved by the building inspector :banana-dance:
