I need paint removal help

I messed up and I need to remove testors and tamiya lacquer paint. The typical 91% bath has not done a thing. Any other tricks before I junk the body trying goo gone?

Hit one of the model forums, some folks on those always have some weird idea that works in these situations.

Brake fluid also works pretty well as I recall from my old model days and Deslotted just used it on his thread.

Yes, brake fluid works well (Standard DOT 3). Tire bleach will do the trick too. I never had either cause adverse effects on plastic models.

I use to use Chameleon but it is hard to find. It was safe and removed everything.

The only time I ever had any trouble stripping any kind of paint that I put on was the time I used ordinary isopropyl instead of 91% isopropyl. When I learned better on HRW, stripping was a breeze on my painting, and harder on factory jobs. Even then, after 24 hours, I could scrape it off with my fingernail easily, then soak a few minutes then go back to scraping, etc. Tesors and Tamiya lacquers are easily removed in alcohol in a short time with 91%, but enamels are a totally different situation. Is there any chance you are dealing with enamels or an enamel clearcoat like Scaley uses in white kits?

nope, no chance they are enamel. i learned that lesson.

I don't know, that is a quart bottle and I don''t use much at a time. Maybe that would work out okay. It is caustic soda in some dilution, so care and a little high school chemistry would help a lot with safety. I think I'm going to try it. After all, I would only use it for the most stubborn stuff, after 91% isopropyl had failed.

Just send it to Cagee. He LOVES wet sanding bodys. I am sure he can sand it perfectly clean for you...and best part is no greasy kid stuff.

Buy him a bowl of 3-Way chili, fair deal.

have you tried letting it soak in brake fluid for 24 hours? a qt of brake fluid cost about 4 bucks and will remove almost any paint and the leave the plastic perfect. check my strombecker redux thread.

6hrs of simple green and no dice. if it doesn't come of by tomorrow afternoon, brake fluid baby! at this point I should hve just bought another car and started over. :?
