I HAVE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally did it. I decided to bite the bullet and get the stuff to try casting. This was just an experiment to fine line what to do and what not to do. It's not as good as the great Dr. in Colorado but I'm proud of it. Anyways this is the first one out of the mold and is quite soft but I hear that is normal. Getting ready to go try another one and see if gets any better. This is a 1937 Cord 812 in 1/32.

Nicely done! That front end is pretty challenging and it looks good.

Are the blue spots putty or part of the mold?

The blue spots are pieces of clay that was in the mold that I couldn't get dug out. The second body that came out didn't have any of the clay in it. That is another thing I learned with this one. I need to adjust the insides so they are more smooth and easier to clean out the clay.

Chris - don't use clay. It is miserable to deal with on bodies. Use 3M green automotive tape. I only use clay for small parts molds - never a body.

Looks great! You inspire me to try it. I have been wanting some of those front engine roadsters late 50-early 60's like the Chaparall 1, Maserati Birdcage and the Lister Jag. I am looking forward to seeing how you do that Cord. My neighbor from across the street had two of them when I was a kid.

I've got some interesting models lined up to do. I've decided to do this slowly to get the feel for what I'm doing. I don't want to just go from body to body. This body came out okay but I still have a lot to learn to get a real good casting. The next model I believe I will build up outside edges a little to get it a bit thicker. The sides of the body under the door is very thin and will take some attention when I get them ready to build.
