Sad day at the bench!

Postby btaylor » Sat Mar 24, 2018 5:26 am

Got a tall order for some Indy car bodies this week, thought I would break out the molds and get cracking. Due to some very bad storage ideas on my part, I lost about 75 per cent of my molds. Luckily some of the rare bodies are still intact, and I have saved all the masters. but it sure is disheartening to have to start over again. Funny thing is, the cheap silicone I used way back, has held up far better than the expensive stuff??? lesson learned, the pink silicone from Hobby Lobby is the better choice for my climate. If any of these bodies interest anyone, just PM me, I may still have the mold.

Bob, I lost a bunch of molds a couple years ago. They were the Smoothon Oomoo rubber, which is about the cheapest you can get.

I also like the Alumilite high strength (pink) better than any other rubbers I have used the last couple years.

I have also started storing molds with a casting in them, hoping that help them retain their shape.

Well dang it Bob, sorry to hear and see this.

Get in the “new” work truck, load up what you can and I’ll help you make the new ones. :)

David, speaking as a lifelong son of the South, it gets DAMN HOT! Of course, with global warming, who the heck knows, day to day?

David, as rob said,it gets real hot and humid here. Its march, and its been in the 80's the last few days. Thats why we have gators and swamps. About as miserable as can be in the summer.

Be sure to use the Hobby Lobby 40% discount coupon when you purchase the silicon. It's the best deal I have found.
