Oldsmobile Omega "Finished!"

Postby dge467 » Mon Dec 11, 2017 10:33 pm

You never know what you can find at automobile swap meets. I found this last October. The man selling it told me it was left over stock from his sisters store that closed in the 1980's. I picked it up for $12.00 still sealed.

I am going to build it as a Trans Am type racer. The chassis and interior are from a Scalextric 69 Camaro that had a very banged up body. Stay tuned.

For realistic detail, you can have the entire rear section rust off onto the ground in a heap! I always wondered if they got the steel for that one from Lancia.

They've reintroduced the Falcon/ Futura ute/ pickup and the Avanti so fingers crossed this one will pop up again (if it's by the same manufacturer).

Sorry, I forgot to mention the manufacture of the kit! It is by Lindberg. The box is dated 1976.

I was reluctant to even look at this, but it actually looks kind of "racy"!

Well it is finished! I ended up painting the body with Tamiya Light blue and clear coat. The rear spoiler is from a Scalextric 69 Camaro junker. The front spoiler is from a 1/25 scale kit. It was in my spare parts box. I just trimmed it an filed it down some to fit. The fuel fillers are from that same Camaro. I used chrome foil on the trim.

The interior tub was trimmed a bit on the bottom, the top of the dash board was trimmed down too. I also made the roll cage more upright, as it was a bit too laid back. A filler piece was made at the rear of the interior tub to fit the body contour better.

I soaked the wheels in rubbing alcohol to strip off the yellow paint, and just left them in the white bare plastic color. I added some random decals too. Not a bad kit, except for the two sink marks in the radiator grille.

It make a cool and different slot car for sure!
