Another Proxy Build

Postby glasshorsevh » Fri Aug 04, 2017 3:46 pm

Well, I've finished my first proxy build from outside my favorite forum. I really wanted to try a vintage F1 and the opportunity presented itself; plus some other members of HRW are entered, so I didn't feel entirely alone. This started out with a rather race worn Scalextric Eagle, and I intended this to be a simple conversation. As I was finishing up, I ran across an article on the web by someone else who did the exact same conversation as this, but probably better. Anyway, I think it all came out pretty good in the end, and although it is not technically what I might call a scratch-build, I'm posting it here anyway. I won't be attempting to fabricate another V12 anytime soon... believe me!

I was late getting into this one, and when space did open up I just didn't have the time to build a worthy entry. Love the cars and era, and your entry is a fine example. Should be a great proxy.
Cheers

All,

Thanks for the compliments and encouragement one always gets from HRM members...

The chassis is the Scalextric Eagle it originally came with. There is also a brass plate attached to the bottom with a bit of lead that is flush with the original magnet holder to give it some stability.

My intention was to give the original Eagle an alcohol soaky bath, convert the Westlake into a BRM, paint it red, create the decals and be done. When first finished, I realized that with the original Eagle wheels (not intirely correct anyway) and tires, it was illegally low according to the rules. So; the wheels were changed to CBs with McLaren inserts and the axles/gear were replaced with Slot it pieces. I fabricated the BRM V12 from strips of resin cut from an RMS interior tray, wire from some broken ear buds, and a bunch of ferals for the trumpets. The engine took the most time because I wasn't happy with the first attempt, so I ripped it all out and re-did it twice.

David, this one was restricted to only those drivers that raced the 1967 F1 season, so this is Bruce at Mexico... but as you know, Alice is defiantly bringing up the rear in both the Trans Am and the Panamericana, but she intends to remedy that next year with builds already taking place!
