Tire Razor Voltage

What voltage do you run your tire razor? Do you use different voltages (that is speeds) for truing plastic wheels vs truing tires?

Also, is there a way to use more of the sand paper surface other than just the center bit where the tires touch? On my first try I found the plastic wheels loaded the paper up pretty quickly.

I like 5v for a nice, slow speed.

I vary the voltage, but normally about 5 to 6 just like others.

Get an old toothbrush and use it to clean out the sandpaper. Work for me until it’s time to change.

Wow I usually run mine between 3.5 or 4. Maybe I need to crank it up a little :think:

All that is holding the axle in place is the belt, if you crank up the speed the axle will start to jump around. Most of the time you would want to run the speed just below that point, but with some tires you might have to go even slower. Other factors would be what grit sandpaper you were using and if you were using a lubricant like soapy water.

I have always run mine at 6 without an issue and like Harry said keep a toothbrush handy to clean the sandpaper.

With rubber and urethane tires I start out at 3 volts and go down until I get a small sanded ring all the way around the tire, then I'll crank it up to about 4.5 - 5.0 volts. Some rubber tires will gum up/melt if you go too fast. If I have to true up some SCX tires, I throw in the towel and sub in something else to fit, they melt or gum up even with soapy water and low voltage.
