Rear wheel air system

I have been looking at some future slot car purchases. Some have “rear wheel air system”. What is this .

It basically is what it is called when the center spike on a wheel is is cut out to make the wheel lighter and some people like it seems to work better on rougher track like Ninco. We have be playing with it on our wood track and it really depends on the car and the setup which works better.

You have got to be kidding! It isn't a system, it isn't new, and the only thing that is "air" about it is that it exists on earth, surrounded by our atmosphere. What a hoot! Who is the manufacturer of such a silly naming? Maybe its a bad translation of some European language? It can happen in English, too. I remember a British sailor on the dock at Port of Biloxi years ago who, when asked what cargo his freighter was carrying, said, "Magnesium Cream". It was Phillip's Milk of Magnesia (an American antacid liquid remedy). We kids used to hang out on the docks talking to the sailors and looking for odd jobs on the much smaller pleasure boats that moored on the other side of the jetty within the yacht basin.

Well... if the center spike is cut out and is therefore missing, wouldn't that mean air is now occupying that space? So maybe it isn't exactly a system, but there is air involved. When I eat a doughnut I think of it as working my way inward toward the center, which is composed of air, which has no calories. So it's really a form of exercise.

Isn't logic a beautiful thing?

I have heard tell that some European racers, after gluing and grinding the tires on these "air system" wheels, will use a hypodermic needle to inject air and "pump" the tire a bit. Not sure how true this is, and obviously it does not work when there are multiple holes in the wheel or when the tires are not well glued, but I guess it might work.

I love the way any post on HRW can become a source of fun and laughter. Hey Jesla, based on my knowledge of Saturday nights in East Tennessee, maybe we should look into the genes in Sunbright, Sweetwater, and Etowah. You just never know what they got up to in the hills.

I didn’t care for this type wheel on an NSR Corvette and an NSR Porsche. It seemed like the tires wore quickly and chunked. Could have been the tire...but I picked up some foam inserts that fit between the wheel ribs and used SlotIt tires. Much happier.
