I have that issue of Car Model. I had no idea the legendary Braverman had died. He was like a hero to me and the other "grubby motorhead kids at the shabby end of the street." I remember those articles, "Braverman does this, and Braverman does that", and we lapped it up like puppies. When one kid's brother got a slot car magazine with news about him, we would compare notes talking as though we understood every word, which of course was complete fiction. Its probably why it took me so long to get a grip on electrical terms, because I had to un-learn all the stuff we boys taught each other.
