Excellent review, Jesse, and this one is already on my hit list at the local hobby shop.
The Jost/Joest controversy is a German thing. In German, O-umlaut sounds like a combination of O and E. If there is no O-umlaut font available, O-umlaut is spelled oe. Jost (with an umlaut over the O) is properly spelled Joest.
If an O-umlaut is unavailable, it would be a good idea in the tampo printing to spell it 'Jost' -- sticklers can then put two dots over the O with black paint, and the car is perfect. It is impossible to make it look correct if it's spelled Joest on the car. On the base, Joest is an acceptable spelling, and if it was spelled 'Jost', it would simply be wrong and imposible to fix.
So as weird as it looks, it makes the most sense to do it that way. The Spanish aren't particularly known for doing things methodically, though, so it's just as likely that they stumbled onto the correct solution. :) It would be very interesting to hear from Rafael how this all came about. :)
One more comment about the car. SRC continues to do some excellent work with some subjects that nobody has touched yet. They keep moving up my 'favorite manufacturers' list, and they're pretty close to the top.
