Scalextric Camaro - Quick Look

Decided to grab this car as I thought it looked nice.

This is modeled after a car Picko Troberg drove in the Swedish Saloon championship. The paint is done well enough and overall finish is acceptable.

Do you see anything odd? Maybe it is just me?

At least the driver looks better.

The car is not, and has never been a scale award winner. The mold Scalextric produced has never impressed most bowtie enthusiasts and I dare not dispute it. So is it perfect? Not by a long shot.

But does it matter? To some it certainly will. But things like this never stopped many people from buying them and having fun. We sure bought them all years ago...and raced them so hard I won't post photos of the originals :) Still running today...just not very pretty

Mechanically, it's all the same. The guide has changed and seems ok in testing. I was happy that the freeplay in the rear axle was not too excessive.

Image

Today I can get Paul Gage tires...and now that Slot Car Corner has them, I got them when I ordered the car. They fit great. Wheels needed a quick sanding to remove flash molding and then a session on the razor.

It has been 3 or 4 years since I picked one of these up. Other models like the 70 Camaro and of course Pioneer ponys kept my stable pretty full. Still not a bad car really, I am happy I added it.

Fun is what we want in our toys. We had plenty of it years ago with this model and I am planning on repeating it.

Thanks Slot Car Corner for great service as always.

Now...I wonder if they will do this one? Might as well?

Nice review Harry, Its nice to see a Camaro for review again. Even with the design mistakes they are still good looking cars and like you said, they have been a lot of fun over the years. They have always been a favorite of mine.

I think it's odd that the drivers name is spelled Pico on the door, in my opinion he spelled it Picko.

Good looking machine. These Camaros and the Mustangs from Scalextric are the reason I got into 1:32. While not perfect, they were good enough for me and have logged many, many miles on my tracks. Just ran my Donahue car the other night when Chris was over.

Thanks for showing this one - I may break my own rule (I already have too many of these Camaros) and pick one up.

Only pix I've seen of Trobergs team are a series one Camaro (*think* it's a '67) and the '70 model. Pretty surre he didn't race the '69 model

Great colours though.

Chris.

I owned Camaros for 25 years and I have no problems with the looks or shape of this model. I just wish someone would do the 82-92 body style.

Bob, I'm with you - while folks can argue about the looks of this particular model, it is the one that drew me like a moth to flame for 1:32 and looks just fine tooling around my track.

Man, did we ever have fun with the Scaley Camaros and Mustangs! I think I finally used up my last white kit last year.

"Blame Harry" is what I said to my beloved when my Liptons Camaro arrived in the post today. It looks great but I haven't run it on track yet 'coz in the same parcel were some Carrera Radius 4 curve so some track changes are coming.

Just dawned on me, the driver figure is missing Pickos (RIP) #1 signum. His moustache!
