Working on the second new Jalopy and thought I'd share a few pics.
Started with this kit that I have had for awhile. Mine will not look like this to say the least. Decent kit but no inserts.
The chassis is an old Pro-Track that I found laying in that same parts bin! I have a bad habit of opening a model kit with full intentions of getting started. I will place the chassis/motor/wheels inside and start putting it together s a mock up to see what direction I want to go. Ever start a project and then it seems to fade into that "roundtuit" area? Well, this is one of them. The chassis had been cut down and altered for another car. I had to trim away the side mounts with a Dremel cut off blade and move them to the front. The front of the chassis is scratch-built using different sizes of K&S brass. I use stock #262 for the frame rails as usual.
Chassis finished. Pretty simple design although I got a little crazy with the front horn :)
Standard H&R Hawk for power.
Interior is a playing card cut to size and then the Champ driver bust. Scrap styrene rods from the kit were used for the roll bar.
As with the last build I am using the new Paul Gage Jalopy Tires he made up for us. These look and hook up very well for my taste.
I lightly sand the wheel after removing the foam and then coat the wheel with clear fingernail polish. This allows you time to set the tire on the wheel as straight and true as you can. I like to mount mine on spare axles and spin them to check the alignment. I leave a little of the tires raised from the edge of the wheel to allow the insert to set a little better.
Little paint and they look pretty good to me.
Chassis is finished and it goes like I hoped...smooth and predictable.
Now to finish the body up :)
