The super speedway races always seem to become crash fests, which I think is what the networks want because that's about all that makes it to the sports highlight shows, and what they think attracts most fans to auto racing. I wonder if any of the execs have ever been to a race if they weren't working or have to be there. Are they race fans themselves? Would they actually buy a ticket and go to a race at Eldora and sit beside folks in jeans and racing T-shirts and love it?
Anyone remember when ESPN broadcasted Thursday Night Thunder? It featured USAC asphalt sprint and midget races from various track every week and was great to watch. There were some drivers with names people knew, like Rich Vogler, but it was mostly good racing that drew viewers.
Anyway, racin' is racin' and I'll tune in again next weekend.
