Oval Track Heats - Question

My new oval is almost done(see the Lumber Yard). While working on it last night, my buddy and I were discussing the race format. He thought each heat should be 5 laps, then we rotate lanes. I am used to road course racing where we run for three minutes then rotate lanes. So the question is: How do you run your race program on your oval course. I should mention my track will be four lanes with an average lap of 36 feet.

2 minute heats work real well on a small oval in my opinion. Nice quick race, even if you have a lot of drivers.

We do 2 Min. heat's with a minute or two in between to clean tire's etc. We don't do Crash and Burn we use Computer lap counting system . Bean

We do timed heats with lane rotations. 1:1 oval racing is done by distance or for a certain number of laps, but 1:1 cars don't have to do lane rotations. I suppose that we could run each heat for a certain number of laps, we have never tried that.

On a small track, we do 50 lap heat races. We give out points to the winner of each heat. 5 for 1st, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd, and 1 for 4th. After everyone has run all 4 lanes, we tally up the score (Trackmate will do this for you under 'Championship' mode). Most points is your winner.
It's almost a given that the guy on the inside lane will win every heat, and the guy in the outside lane has to work the hardest to get points. Where it gets interesting is how well you can do in the middle lanes to add to your points total.

Two minute heats sound great to me. but the "Championship Mode" is also interesting. I guess that keeps someone from getting too far behind to recover if they have a bad heat. When we get to racing I'll give that a try. Thanks

ITS HARD TO DO LAP RACING ON A SMALL OVAL WITH THE INSIDE LANE SO MUCH FASTER THEN OUTSIDE LANE.
IT COULD BE 1/2 SECOND A LAP. OUTSIDE LANE GET LAPPED EVERY 4 LAPS.
BUT I HAVE PUT A VOLTAGE REGUATOR ON EACH LANE, INSIDE LANES HAVE A LOWER VOLTAGE AND THE OUTSIDE LANES VOLTAGE GETS HIGHER.
I HAVE A 6 LANE, SMALL OVAL AND ALL 6 LANE ARE WITHIN A FEW HUNDREDS BETWEEN THEM.
MAKE FOR SOME CLOSE ACTION PACK RACING.YOU MAY HAVE 4 CARS IN THE LEAD LAP AFTER 50 LAPS

We run two minute lane rotation heats also. With the squeeze on my oval track the inside lane doesn't necessarily have the advantage.
On the road course its the same rotation.
