Re: Scalextric Charger 500

Well, we know they read this community's comments, and they have had a remarkable customer service history, so maybe they will take the hint. If not, and this chassis turns out like the Trux failure, I'll have a stack of chassis when they don't sell. I only have 3 left from the 8 I bought on closeou...

Re: Old Indy/F1 Oil Painting

Yep. We're on the right track, I think. I wonder if there is a photo that inspired the painter? The hump may still be something of a clue, since the Lola in the photo above shows front suspension parts that are angled up to the wheels from the body, and the painting doesn't. Seems like a detail a pa...

Re: Checking in...

Thanks, guys. Its good to be understood. And Harry, I started carrying your phone number in my wallet a month ago. Its an important safety net for me. And Sarge, I should have included the fraudulent reduction in Vet's benefits. Sorry about that. You're absolutely right. BTW, two of my uncles were A...

Re: 2 part layout

Yep. What he said. Also, you need to make the surface more rigid by adding a few well placed 2/4s underneath, screwed down from above the surface. 1/4 inch ply will give you trouble sooner or later.

Scalextric thoughts

I can't seem to find that topic about the upcoming Charger that looks to be kinda hinky, but I have looked into it a bit further. Scaley already makes a 1968 Charger in several liveries, and a 1969 Charger in several liveries. I looked at the front and rear of both, and they are pretty close to true...

Re: Checking in...

If you lived down here where the oxygen is, you could borrow mine, its a 37 tonner! Hospice is like nothing I ever experienced in medical doings. My wife and I have been medical folks for over 40 years, and three of my seminary colleagues went straight to Hospice as a Chaplaincy calling from graduat...

Re: Scalextric thoughts

But what year? That chrome vertical bar isn't on the '68.'69, or '70, but it does appear on the '71. I never noticed the rear window- even back then.

Re: Scalextric thoughts

That car and that show were anathema in the South- we thought Hollywood was taking cheap shots at us.

So you think that shallow grill is the same as the deep recess grill from the '69?

Re: Scalextric thoughts

Good grief. Its more confusing than I thought. The only thing that is clear is that the rear of the car is very unlikely to be 1971, which I was wondering about. I have it on order, so I'll see what I can do when it gets here. What I'd like is if I can put those hubcapped wheels on a Roadrunner stre...

Re: Misc vintage slot pic's

I second the motion about the new AMT's. What a difference that chassis and an interior of any kind might have made. I'd also add that the Impala that AMT did was one of the sleekest and best of the day.

Re: Carrera 50's Era Racers

I thought that bug-eyed Ferrari was one of the goofiest cars I'd ever seen when it came out, so of course I had to have two. I was amazed at how great they were with only a tire change. Get some tall skinny urethanes on those pretty wire wheels, and sit back to see the show. Truth be known, that car...

Me too. You gotta respect excellence, even if there's never going to be a time when I would personally need this unit.

The only difference in the sheet metal that I saw was the rear roof pillar.

Re: Carrera Classic "SCCA" Corvette

Lee and I were planning a duo build with that car back before my father's stroke. He probably had to go on without me. I was going to do a roadster version by cutting the roof off and fabricating a rear deck. These days, I'm not so ambitious.

Re: Coffee...What is the best you have had?

When my family lived about an hour out of New Orleans on the Mississippi/Louisiana line, I learned that coffee- good coffee- is a religion, not a beverage. The big secret in south Louisiana is a Filtron. When I was a boy, it was a huge glass bowl with a filter at the bottom, into which you put a pou...
