I zoomed the photo waay up, and it doesm indeed have dark bronze panels where they belong, but those are definitely wire wheels with spinners, neither of which was ever on a Chaparral.

I remember missing that one because a crooked contractor stole a big wad of money from me. It took over a year and a half to chase him down and drag him into court, during which time I couldn't begin to afford new slot cars- I was wasting money on trivial things like groceries and electricity.

Upon reflection, I am wondering what exactly you mean by "sealant". If you used something over the paint, it could easily have curdled the paint surface (which was fine by itself), and then the loosened, curdled paint would fleck off when tires ground into it. Is that what happened? If so,...
